(The Abridged Version - Really)
Why would you opt for a romantic vacation for two in Venice, when you can come home with memories like this? (Don't answer that.)
Us being romantic at home:
Venice just happened to be on the way to Montenegro, a fabulous little jewel of a place where Steve's father, Don, and the lovely Elita now live.........but don't go there - you wouldn't like it - really - and you couldn't get in anyway because we were the last people they are ever allowing in the country.

Other Fantastic "Firsts":
Nick on Swim Team
- Christian riding his 2- wheel bike (and his first trip out of the neighborhood he led a six-miler down at Duck, NC. Nick was begging him to stop, but he was reveling in his new-found freedom)
- Nick begging to stay up late to read (thank you, J.K. Rowling)
- Laura and Patti spending a weekend at a yoga retreat (and that won't be the last, either!)
- Road trip up to DC to watch the DC United/LA Galaxy (a.k.a. Beckham's Team) soccer game

Sweet 16 Again for Laura
Among my fabulous gifts for my 40th birthday was the opportunity to reunite with some dear friends:

I'm sure it made them feel young again, too, to know that I was still rockin' out in the audience. I wore my 1983 Police Tour t-shirt (year of the 16th birthday), which was widely admired, but I was a little distraught at one passerby's comment: "Man, that's an OLD shirt!"
Workday Talk
Over the past year and a half of working in oyster restoration, I, alas, have not saved the Chesapeake Bay. And, thanks to a disappearance of funds from the federal government (oysters or war on terror.......hmmm), the native oyster shall have to endure its plight without me, as it has for the last century or so. Luckily, I have Al Gore on the larger case of ensuring there will be a future planet on which oysters would wish to live. For now, I will reserve my energy for the beautifully chaotic metamorphosis of our children, the charity work we do in the community, and more yoga - to keep calm in the wake of my husband's big ideas, such as.........
Opening December 17
Why chicken, you ask? Why not? Why ask why? I think it's because chicken jokes are Steve's favorite. And there was this little vacated business right next to Steve's warehouse, and seeing how Steve was just beginning to see completion of his new office addition on his booming event rental business, he started to freak out that he might not have enough to do. The restaurant equipment was going for a tempting price. Enter Steve and Craig, our illustrious chef friend, and there was no looking back. Why do people climb mountains? Because they're there. Over the past month, paint, decor, equipment and tools have been flying furiously - now all we need is the chickenivores.
Over the past year, we have had the pleasure of visits from friends and family, trips with friends and family, and just plain enjoying our home life. In this little anthill of ours in the great wild kingdom of life, we sure have enjoyed laughing, partying, playing, working, and learning together with many of you. To those of you further away - we think about you often. Our best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a happy, healthy new year.
Much love,
Laura, Steve, Nicholas, and Christian
